Tiling

Tiling is mostly preparation. Get the surface flat, dry and square first and the tiles look right for twenty years; skip that and you'll see every bad joint from the doorway.

I tile bathrooms, kitchens, hallways and floors — full walls or splashbacks, ceramic, porcelain or natural stone. I set out from the most visible line in the room so the cuts end up where nobody looks.
